The Snow Queen
Reading Rep -December 2024

Written by Anna Wheatley

Based on the Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tale

Directed by Paul Stacey, Matthew Forbes and Chris Cuming

In this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic, Charlotte played the titular role of The Snow Queen as well as Ragna the Grandmother, Princes Cybill, Storm and Veera.

'Charlotte Warner, who played the Snow Queen herself along with many other parts, gave a marvelous performance with her ability to completely blend into each character. Within the relatively short show, Warner was able to showcase possibly four different accents, multiple genders, and excellent story-telling skills.'

The Reading Chronicle

'Charlotte Warner’s portrayal of Ragna, the storyteller at the heart of the production, guides us masterfully through the story’s unfolding events.  She offers a delightful balance of humour and skill, with exceptional comedic timing.  Her ability to effortlessly slip into various characters brings a playful and engaging energy to the stage.  She moves between different roles with ease, shifting from the whimsical Ragna to more serious characters without losing the humour that makes her performance so enjoyable.  Warner’s skilful blend of humour and sincerity ensures that Ragna’s role as a narrator does not detract from the emotional weight of the story but instead enhances it by providing moments of lightness.  Her interactions with the rest of the cast are full of warmth and wit, and her rapport with O’Sullivan and Desebrock feels natural and genuine. '

Mark Aspen

'Charlotte Warner is fresh and authentic in the role, engaging the audience with her wisdom and blether. '

'TellTale Tits (Charlotte Warner and Lexi Bradburn) are a brilliant double-act, completely in synch and spinning a world in which the personal and the comedic become one. They have a goofy, acrobatic physicality, a clowning sense of fun, and a musical and verbal dexterity which turns material that could be distasteful into something uplifting, hopeful and heartwarming. And very funny.'

It is a darkly comic play about determination and failure. Taking inspiration from the poetry of Anne Sexton and Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, Attempt introduces us to the world of a solo performer who offers us a glimpse into her life, and the story of her struggle with suicide.

Performed originally as a site-specific piece at 'Poppy's of Exeter' in 2013, it was reworked and performed at the Exeter Northcott Theatre and The Bike Shed Theatre in 2014.

'A spell binding solo performance by Charlotte Warner.'
